Saltwell Park Green Flag Award

Between 2000 and 2005, Saltwell Park was transformed back to its former Victorian glory with a £6.7 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund and a £3 million contribution from Gateshead Council.
The aim of the project was to conserve Saltwell Park, which is recognised as one of the North East’s finest examples of a nineteenth-century municipal park, at a critical stage in its life and to safeguard its continued success into the twenty first century.
